Country: Hong Kong
Division: Macquarie Capital Advisers
Title Business: Analyst, Property
Qualification(s): Bachelor of Science (Hotel Administration)
I decided to join Macquarie because I had the opportunity to join the property team, one of the most successful in the Asia-Pacific region. This was particularly appealing to me due to my specialised degree.
I have just completed my first year at Macquarie and have been involved in various ECM, M&A and wholesale transactions. For the first six months, I principally worked on the IPO and listing of a Malaysian forestry company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Since then Iv'e worked on a potential takeover of a Hong Kong-listed company. Furthermore, since I expressed an interest in hotel transactions, my managers have also appointed me to work on two hotel-related deals.
Since working at Macquarie, I have found the culture to be very friendly and entrepreneurial. My team are smart and genuinely nice people who are willing to take time to teach me and I also help clients, lawyers, and accountants with my supervisor and felt challenged by the high-level of responsibility that I was given so early in my career. The best thing about working for Macquarie is you can take on new responsibilities as soon as you demonstrate your abilities meaning you can progress quickly.
As Macquarie is growing so rapidly offshore there are many opportunities for employees, including graduates, to gain international experience and travel. In the past year I have had to travel to places such as Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, and to Australia for training and corporate events.

Title: Business Analyst, Telecommunications, Media, Entertainment and Technology
Qualification(s): Bachelor of Business Management (Honours)
I joined Macquarie because it is a young, vibrant and fast-growing organisation. I strongly believe that Macquarie is a place that will allow me to learn and progress at the same speed at which the company is growing.
Over the past year, I worked on one of the largest technology leveraged buyout deals in Singapore. Our team ran a competitive sale process which involved a handful of private equity firms. At times, the deal was a roller-coaster ride and we often faced different challenges daily. I played an active role in the transaction from identifying potential buyers, preparing teasers, information memorandums and management presentations to analysing competitive bids. By working on a live transaction, I had the opportunity to interact with a range of people from the top management team of a well-reputed company to executives of well-established private equity firms. I was also able to work closely with my Vice President which was an amazing learning opportunity.
One of the things I particularly like about Macquarie is the strong culture. We work in a very open, team-based environment and there is a strong emphasis on developing Macquarie staff. Whenever I am in doubt, I am encouraged to ask questions. The senior members of Macquarie are very patient, approachable and knowledgeable and I feel extremely fortunate to have someone like my Vice President to guide me in my career.

Title: ITG Senior Associate, Information Technology Group
Joined: 2004
I joined Macquarie in 2004 as a Senior Associate in the Information Technology Group, following the acquisition of the ING Cash Equities business in the same year. I had previously worked in various roles at ING and HSBC, mainly supporting demanding trading environments.
The effort and team-work that was put in to ensuring that all offices were functional during the ING separation project was astounding. That this was achieved within the required six-month timeframe was even more impressive.
In my current role, I ensure that the business units within Asia are provided with the necessary IT services to enable their business to continue to flourish.

Title: Manager, Macquarie Capital and Macquarie Capital Products, Macquarie Capital Joined: 2001
Since I joined Macquarie in 2001, my role has grown and expanded considerably. Macquarie is a very open place to work and people are not limited in what they can do. I've had the opportunity to work on a variety of deals and in several countries.
I started as a business analyst in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, working mainly on infrastructure. I also spent some time in the Japan office on principal acquisitions in infrastructure, and am now based in Hong Kong, where I am involved in Macquarie's first investment in Taiwan, an acquisition of the third largest cable television company in the area.
I was attracted to Macquarie because of its specialised knowledge in the field of advisory services, particularly infrastructure, where the depth and breadth of Macquarie's advisory, acquisition and funds expertise speak for themselves.
Before Macquarie, my background was in risk management advisory with Bankers Trust. I studied a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physics at Imperial College, London before completing a Masters Science in Investment Management at Cass Business School, London. I am also a CFA chart holder.
My advice for success is simple: be prepared to work hard, ask questions and put up your hand for new opportunities, and you'll go far at Macquarie.

Title: Associate Director, Macquarie Capital - Macquarie Capital Advisers
Joined: 2004
I joined Macquarie in 2004 in Macquarie Capital, as an Associate Director in the utilities team of the Corporate Finance Division, Korea. Within one year, I was able to establish a sustainable new business base in Korea by successfully leading the establishment of a domestic private equity fund.
I learned that to succeed at Macquarie, don't wait until you are being asked to do something: instead, make your own initiatives to create and develop new opportunities, and ask Macquarie for support.

Title: Senior Sales Trader, Macquarie Capital Securities, Macquarie Capital
Joined: 2004
I joined Macquarie in 2004 after working at ING as a sales trader in Singapore and Hong Kong. I was part of the Asia equity sales trading team that came across from ING in 2004, and I have continued in that capacity at Macquarie. I focus on selling Asia ex-Japan equity products to institutional clients in the US and Asia.
I completed a Bachelor of Science in pre-law with a minor in psychology at the University of South Carolina, US.
I have learnt that at Macquarie, you need to have a sense of humour and truly believe in teamwork. I wouldn't be where I am today if I had to do it alone.

Title: Executive, Equity Markets Group
Joined: 2005
I joined Macquarie at the end of 2005, moving from a credit analyst role at JP Morgan Private Banking. I previously studied a bachelor of finance at the University of Hong Kong, and a Bachelor of Laws at the University of London.
Today, I work in the Equity Markets Group and am responsible for pricing and selling equity derivatives products. I am based in Hong Kong and my key clients are private banks in the Asia-Pacific region. Client relationships are vital to our business line: a client's appreciation for your hard work is as important as your boss' appreciation.
I have learnt that at Macquarie, teamwork is the key to success. It's like playing soccer: if you want to win, you have to be an excellent team player.
