Community Partnerships
In addition to our extensive coaching programs, Macquarie Sports supports organisations that seek to increase opportunities for children through sport. These programs include most mainstream sports in Australia and provide 2500 Australian children with opportunities they may otherwise not have. The organisations supported include not-for-profits, professional sporting bodies, state and national sporting organisations, government departments and businesses.

Kids to Kangaroos Clinics
Macquarie Sports, in conjunction with the Australian Rugby League Development, runs Kids to Kangaroos Clinics each year throughout Australia. In 2009, clinics have been held in Central Australia, Bathurst, Canberra and Bega. The clinics are a fun rugby league experience for boys and girls aged 5-12. More than 15,000 kids learn the skills of the game and participate in rugby league lead-up games in a safe and fun environment.
In addition to the Clinics, as one of Macquarie Sports' leading ambassadors, Nathan Hindmarsh (Australian and New South Wales representative from the Parramatta Eels) is passionate about spending time-out in the clubs and schools interacting with and coaching children. Throughout the Rugby League season Nathan visits schools, clubs and regional gala days as a coach and role model. As a result, over 500 children from 15 clubs and schools will be coached by Nathan and receive sporting equipment from Macquarie Sports.
“It really is making a big difference to many of these communities. As a kid I would have loved to listen and learn from current day players.” Nathan Hindmarsh

The program has been developed to provide students from Year 9 with an interesting and informative training session that focuses on the provision of life skills. Using the Adelaide Football Club players as facilitators, the program aims to increase students' awareness of the consequences that their decisions have on their future and on other people.

Freshen Up Sports and Health Program - Western Bulldogs Football Club
Macquarie Sports sponsors the Freshen Up Program run by the Western Bulldogs Spirit West Services which provides sporting activities and role models to participants. This is part of the FRESH program which has been developed through a collaborative approach by community, education and business sectors. It involves an engaging balance of practical work and life skills as well as prospects for participants to improve their literacy and numeracy skills. Many of the participants have successfully gained employment through the course of the program and others continue their education or training via traineeships, apprenticeships and TAFE. Others gain the confidence and skills to return to mainstream schools to complete their Victorian Certificate of Education.
