I joined Macquarie in the summer of 2008 after completing my MBA & B.Sc. at Wilfrid Laurier University. As part of my program I undertook multiple co-op placements within the Investment Banking arena, the most recent of which was with Macquarie Capital in the Funds team. What initially led me to Macquarie was a blend of their growing presence within the Americas and their collegial culture and entrepreneurial spirit. This said, having completed my internship in 2007 with Macquarie I was eager to sign on for a full-time placement where I could see myself developing a career.

As an Analyst in the Funds team my role spans across both asset management and deal execution, typical to that of a traditional private equity firm. On the asset management front my responsibilities include building and maintaining the multiple financial models of the assets and of the fund, working at a high level with the asset management teams, and monitoring and insuring asset operational performances are inline with the fund’s guidance, as well as developing the strategic business initiatives for the individual assets. As we seek to acquire additional assets into the fund’s portfolio we enter into deal execution where we work closely with the Advisory team to execute a given transaction. At an Analyst level this may include anywhere between building and maintaining the financial model, to running the comparables analyses, to managing the due diligence processes, all while representing the fund and shareholders best interests and keeping the fund’s Director and team in close proximity to the transaction.

Following a week of training in the New York office I have hit the ground running being brought on board with several on-going transactions as well as getting updated with all of my fund’s assets. To date my experiences have been even beyond all of my expectations coming in, the Macquarie culture and calibre of its staff has really been exceptional and perhaps the clearest distinguisher among other investment banks.
