The Macquarie Group Foundation |

|
Part of the Macquarie Group philosophy is that, as a company is a member of the society in which it operates, it follows that one of its responsibilities is to work for the betterment of that society. This thought drove Macquarie's early community support program, which was formalized in 1985 when the Macquarie Group Foundation was established. Today the Macquarie Group Foundation is a leading corporate benefactor, contributing $25 million to more than 900 community organizations globally in the year ended March 31, 2009. In addition, Macquarie staff raised $7.7 million for community organizations. The Foundation focuses its resources in five core areas: education, the arts, health, welfare and the environment. Macquarie staff provide support to community organizations through personal donations, fundraising and serving on non-profit boards. Under our staff donation policy, all permanent Macquarie staff are eligible to apply to the Foundation for a matching grant for donations and fundraising. In recognition of their service, staff members serving on non-profit boards can apply for a one-time grant for their organization. In Canada, the Foundation’s Community Advisory Committee works to build partnerships with non-profit organizations which are genuinely responsive to the community’s needs and where our staff are actively involved. We focus on long-term partnerships, providing financial support and leveraging the skills and expertise of Macquarie staff. Youth in Motion programs are designed to provide access to career information and increase awareness about employment opportunities. A member of Macquarie staff serves on the board of Youth in Motion. The Macquarie Group Foundation financially supports Youth in Motion’s annual Opportunities Unlimited program in Toronto. The nine-month program targets at-risk women aged 18-30. The program helps participants break through employment barriers by offering employability skills training, mentoring and practical work experience. Mentoring is a significant component of the Opportunities Unlimited program. Macquarie staff volunteers play an active role in group workshops, sharing professional and personal experiences, as well as mentoring on a one-on-one basis. Macquarie also provides six-month internship positions for program participants.

With challenging rides in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta it is a truly national event, drawing participants from eight provinces and raising over $28.5 million in just two years. The funds raised benefit a range of leading cancer charities, including the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation and the Centre du Cancer Segal. The Macquarie Group Foundation matches fundraising and donations by Macquarie staff members. As at January 2010, staff have raised over $85,000 taking part in the Ride to Conquer Cancer. With match funding this has seen over $170,000 donated to cancer charities in Canada.

In addition, a member of Macquarie staff serves on Earth Day Canada’s Board of Directors.
