22 August 2005 Macquarie Airports (MAp) today released its monthly report on traffic performance at its airports for July 2005. Traffic performance for Copenhagen Airports is set out as an attachment to this release.

*international, domestic including regional passengers and are estimated. Total traffic at Sydney Airport for July 2005 is estimated to have increased by 3.2% over the pcp. International passengers for July grew 5.7% on the pcp. This is a good result in the context of total traffic growth of 12.1% and international traffic growth of 13.6% in July 2004 on the pcp. Over the period July 2003 to July 2005 total traffic growth was 7.6% p.a on a compound annual basis. In key international markets for July, Australian outbound traffic was up 8% on the pcp (June +9%). New Zealand travellers were down 6% on the pcp (June -6%). UK travellers were up 14% on the pcp (June +10%). Both New Zealand and UK markets were influenced by the 2005 British Lions Rugby Tour to New Zealand. German travellers were up 13% on the pcp (June +13%). French travellers were up 19% on the pcp (June +11%). US travellers were up 2% on the pcp (June +1%), and Canadian travellers declined 9% on the pcp (June -2%). In Asian markets for July, Korean passenger numbers were up 8% on the pcp (June +27%), Chinese passenger numbers were up 9% on the pcp (June +10%). Indian passenger numbers were up 38% on the pcp (June +27%) and Japanese passenger numbers declined 3% on the pcp (June -16%). Domestic passenger traffic continued growth at 1.9%. On 9 July 2005, Sydney Airport welcomed its 40th international airline customer Air Tahiti Nui with two services a week to Papeete. On 16 July Emirates commenced a daily service to Christchurch and on 27 June Pacific Blue started four services a week to their new destination in Fiji. Brussels
In July 2005, Brussels Airport’s traffic was 3.9% above the pcp and chargeable departing passengers 4.9% up on pcp. Intra-EU scheduled traffic was 3.1% lower than pcp due to a reduction in capacity in the Greek, Italian and Spanish markets. Extra-EU scheduled traffic was 10.3% higher than pcp driven by higher load factors and more flights. Charter traffic (including Military and GA passengers) increased by 12.4% on the pcp. This growth is driven by a strong performance in both Intra-EU and Extra-EU charter traffic as a result of additional capacity provided by tour operators particularly to Turkey and Egypt. On 2 July, SN Brussels Airlines inaugurated its seasonal services to Cork, Jersey and Bari and on 25 July, Corendon launched a new route to Eskisehir in Turkey. Sun Air will start operating a service to Aarhus (Denmark) with 11 frequencies weekly as from 29 August in addition to its flights to Billund. Virgin Express will add a daily service to Berlin Schönefeld from 5 September and intends to increase frequency to two daily from October. Brussels will now be serving three new long-haul scheduled destinations. From 31 October, Etihad will fly three flights per week from Brussels to Toronto and three flights per week to Abu Dhabi. This is the first scheduled flight from Brussels to the United Arab Emirates. In addition, The Indian carrier Jet Airways plans to commence scheduled flight operations from Brussels to both Mumbai and Newark (New York). The new service will be operated six times a week to both destinations. The start date for the service will be confirmed once all necessary approvals have been received. Aeroporti di Roma (AdR)
In June 2005, Rome Airport’s traffic was 8.7% above the pcp. There was a 2.4% increase at Fiumicino and an 84.1% increase at Ciampino. Domestic traffic was 2.3% lower than pcp, in part due to an Alitalia cabin crew strike on 18 July. The new domestic routes opened by Ryanair at Ciampino carried over 46,000 passengers in July. Intra-EU traffic increased by 17.6% on the pcp. Growth continues to be driven by the expansion of low-fare traffic at both Ciampino and Fiumicino. Extra-EU traffic increased by 13.4% on the pcp, due to buoyant demand on long-haul flights. easyJet added a double daily service to Basel from 24 June and a daily service to Belfast from 1 July and will add a double daily service to Berlin from 21 September. From 30 October, Ryanair has announced that it is adding a daily service from Rome Ciampino to Santiago De Compostela. Birmingham International Airport
Birmingham Airport, handled 1,023,697 passengers in July, the highest level ever recorded at the airport, an increase of 7.8% on pcp. The increase reflects new routes and the entry of new airlines including bmibaby and Air India. In July 2005 domestic traffic was 17.0% higher than pcp. This improvement in performance reflects the introduction of low fare services. Edinburgh was the best performing route, up 26.3% on pcp. International scheduled passengers increased by 26.0% on the pcp with growth achieved on a wide range of short and long-haul services. Asian services were up 42.2% and Transatlantic routes rose by 31.1%. Routes which saw significant rises in traffic over pcp were Prague (+108%), Larnaca (+98.3%), Milan (+92.6%), Helsinki (+65.6%), Copenhagen (+24.3%), Amsterdam (+15.3%), and Zurich (+12.4%). Continuing recent trends in the UK market, charter passengers fell by 13.3% during July. Despite the overall fall in charter traffic, a number of countries did experience growth in passenger numbers from Birmingham including Bulgaria (+78.3%), Mexico (+50.1%) Croatia (+30.6%), Malta (+20.7%) Cyprus (+17.5%) and Turkey (+13.4%). flybe has announced that it will launch a flight to Berne, for the winter season in addition to its existing winter flights to Chambery, Geneva and Salzburg. bmibaby will also add services to Geneva increasing from one to six flights weekly for the peak skiing season. Finally, Monarch Airlines has announced an increase in flights to Alicante for the winter season, increasing from 3 to 6 flights per week. Bristol International Airport
Note: From November 2004, Bristol’s results will be reported by calendar month. In July 2005 Bristol Airport traffic was 12.5% higher than in July 2004. Domestic traffic for June increased by 7.5% on the pcp due to the opening of the Air Southwest route to Newquay and Leeds Bradford. International scheduled flights increased by 24.1% on the pcp. Growth continues to be driven by the introduction of new scheduled routes this summer including Mahon, Milan, Murcia, New York (Newark), Pisa and Zurich. Charter traffic was 3.2% higher than the pcp, continuing performance considerably ahead of the UK market as a whole. The eighth easyJet aircraft was based at the airport in July and has started flying to Inverness, Murcia and Pisa. In addition, easyJet has introduced a twice-weekly seasonal service to Mahon (the island of Menorca) for the summer period. The airline now serves 23 destinations from Bristol, making Bristol the airline's largest UK base outside of London. easyJet will transfer to an all Airbus operation commencing later this year. Ryanair has announced a daily service from Bristol to the new destination of Shannon starting on 30 October. Along with Cork and Dublin, Shannon will be the third Irish point served from Bristol and Ryanair’s second destination from the airport.
