MAp June 2005 Traffic Figures |
|
|
20 July 2005 Macquarie Airports (MAp) today released its monthly report on traffic performance at its airports for June 2005.
* preliminary estimate “Continuing traffic growth at Sydney Airport of 2.8% pcp builds on the strong increase of the previous period. Since the height of the SARS epidemic in June 2003, international traffic at Sydney Airport has grown by approximately 30% or 13.8% on a compound annual basis,” Ms Mather said. “Rome and Bristol airports both recorded double digit growth in passenger traffic in June. Growth at Rome was driven by an expansion of low-fare traffic and higher load factors. New international scheduled flights were introduced from Bristol to the United States and continental Europe. “Brussels Airport has experienced another strong month of growth generated primarily by charter traffic and the success of airline marketing activities leading to additional scheduled flights. “Birmingham Airport broke previous records in June, handling over 960,000 passengers to record 9.2% growth on pcp. This growth included the launch of several new airlines, increased frequencies and new routes,” Ms Mather said. Sydney Airport
*domestic including regional passengers are estimated. Total traffic at Sydney Airport for June 2005 is estimated to have increased by 2.8% over the pcp and 7.1% for the financial year 2005. International passengers for June grew 4.0% on the pcp, an improvement in the rate of growth over May 2005 as the impact of a strong bounce-back last year related to SARS and the Iraq War in the prior year moderated. In key international markets for June, Australian outbound traffic was up 9% (May +5%). New Zealand travellers were down 6% on the pcp (May -6%), jointly influenced by significant growth in June 2004 related to seat capacity growth and price competition on the trans-Tasman routes as well as the British Lions Rugby Tour to New Zealand in May/June 2005. UK travellers were up 10% on the pcp (May +2%). US travellers were down 1% on the pcp (May +2%), and Canadian travellers declined 2% on the pcp (May +6%). In Asian markets for June, Korea was up 27% on the pcp (May +9%) and China was up 10% on the pcp (May +0.2%). Japan declined 16% on the pcp (May -22%), influenced by the strong bounce-back in June last year related to SARS and the Iraq War in the prior year. Domestic passenger traffic continued growth at 2.3% on the pcp. Brussels
In June 2005, Brussels Airport’s traffic was 6.1% above the pcp with departing passengers 6.8% up on pcp. Intra-EU scheduled traffic was 3.6% above the pcp. Extra-EU scheduled traffic was 6.9% higher than pcp largely driven by higher loads on existing flights. Charter traffic (including Military and GA passengers) increased by 11.7% on the pcp. This growth was again driven by a strong performance (+25.9% increase) in Extra-EU charter traffic as a result of additional capacity provided by the tour operators. Intra-EU traffic increased by 20.5% on the pcp. Growth continues to be driven by the expansion of low-fare traffic at both Ciampino and Fiumicino and higher load factors. Extra-EU traffic increased by 14.9% on the pcp, due to buoyant demand on long-haul flights. Apart from the new domestic services noted above, Ryanair also added a daily service to Dublin.
